The Palace on Wheels train is the first luxury tourist train in India. It was launched in 1982 by Indian Railways and the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation. The idea for Royal Rajasthan on Wheels train came from the royal style of old railway coaches. These coaches were once used by the kings of Rajputana, the ruler of Baroda, the Nizam of Hyderabad, and the Governor-General of India. In 2024, the Palace on Wheels was ranked number one in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards. This shows that it is now known as the best luxury train in the world.

In Jaipur, you will visit Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, City Palace, and other parts of the famous Pink City. You’ll also see the Amber Fort, a grand 16th-century palace listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next, the train takes you to Ranthambhore National Park, where you may spot tigers and other wild animals in their natural home. After that, you’ll visit Chittorgarh, known for its large and historic fort. In Udaipur, enjoy sightseeing by coach. Visit Saheliyon Ki Bari, go shopping, and explore the City Palace and Crystal Gallery.

The journey continues to Jaisalmer, where you can see Gadsisar Lake, the Fort, Havelis, and explore the city. In Jodhpur, visit Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, and the Umaid Bhawan Museum. You’ll also have some time for local shopping. At Bharatpur, explore the Keoladeo National Park, also called the Ghana Bird Sanctuary, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a great place for bird lovers.
